    English

Our class book is Michael Morpurgo's Beowulf, and this will help inspire us as we explore different Mythical texts before writing our own Myth and Information Text. Next half term we will continue with our Mythical theme by reading Arthur and the Golden Rope by Joe Todd-Stanton. We will be exploring Instruction Texts and Narratives.

    History and Geography

We will be starting with History this half term as it ties in nicely with our text in English. In History we will be learning about the Anglo-Saxons and What changed in Britain after the Anglo-Saxon invasion. Next half term we will swap to Geography and we will be looking at What are rivers and how are they used?

    Art and DT

This half term we will be learning to draw using tone, texture and proportion in Art, and next half term we will be making Torches in DT.

    Homework

Children are expected to read at home at least three times a week and have their reading diary signed by an adult.

Children will be expected to play TTRS (Times Table Rock Stars) frequently to help them learn all the times tables facts up to 12x.

    Multiplication Tables Check

During Year 4, the children complete a Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), a short online assessment designed to check their fluency and recall of multiplication facts. The check consists of 25 questions, covering multiplication tables up to 12x12, with children given 6 seconds to answer each question.

We will be practising a lot within class by using Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) and other games/activities involving times tables.

We encourage the children to practice at home using TTRS, specifically playing the Studio or Soundcheck games. They can also practice using this website - Multiplication Tables Check - 2026 - Timestables.co.uk.
