In KS1, we had an exciting experience - The Wonder Dome!
This was a visually immersive experience taking us on a journey through space, we travelled from Earth all the way to seeing the milky way, it was incredible!
We then explored how humans travelled to the moon, and the importance of the "forgotten astronaut" Michael Collins. All the children were awestruck with everything they saw and heard - with one child saying it "was the best thing I've ever done!"
Here are some other lovely quotes we have had from the children:
"I really liked it because it was a fun experience to do and see all the planets"
"The space roller coaster was so cool!"
"It was super cool. I've never done anything like this before"
"I thought we were actually floating"
"I didn't know the world and space was SO big"
Year 4 had two visitors, Tim and Alison, from Ipswich museum come into school to tell us more about life in Anglo-Saxon England.
The children completed a craft activity where they all got to make a replica Anglo-Saxon Brooch using embossing techniques and replica garnets. The children also got to see how Anglo-Saxons entertained themselves and have a go at rune riddles, knuckle game and using old English! Then they got to take part in a battle demonstration using Anglo-Saxon tactics as well as replica spears and shield which they all loved.
After break, all the children were given the opportunity to learn about how the Anglo-Saxons impacted our local area. Tim and Alison had brought some of the real Anglo-Saxon artefacts with them from the museum - many of these artefacts were found in the local area or Ipswich! Everyone was then given an opportunity to explore theses artefacts and guess what they were used for. We all very much enjoyed the day and learnt lots from Tim and Alison’s expertise!
We had Hasty’s Farm visit us in school. They brought along a selection of their farm animals and set up on our playground. Every child had the opportunity to go outside, meet the animals and take part in a “sensory experience”. Lots of information was shared with the children about the animals – all children were engaged and spoke enthusiastically afterwards. We loved having Hasty’s Farm in school with us and hope to invite them back to visit us again.
We welcomed back Chaplins Pantos for our annual pantomime. This year it was Jack and the Beanstalk. The experience, once again funded by the PTA, was enjoyed by both key stages.
Charlotte Tricker (an All Saints’ Parent Governor) delivered a workshop to each class around Remembrance Day. She discussed being ex-military and brought along uniforms and memorabilia. The children were fascinated by this and were allowed to dress up and handle the items Charlotte brought in. A really big “Thank You” to Charlotte for providing such an interesting insight to our pupils and making Remembrance Day even more poignant.
Today, Erika and Olivia from Nite Owls visited the school. During a whole school experience, they introduced us to five different owls and shared lots of information. Four children were lucky enough to be selected to wear protective gloves and have the owls fly from them to another child, across the hall. The owls were absolutely incredible and ranged from tiny to very large! Every child was then given the opportunity to have their photograph taken with Dotty the Barn Owl.
Abbeygate Concert Band
We have been lucky enough to have a 24 piece brass band visit us. The Abbeygate Concert Band played a concert for our year 3, 4 and 5 pupils in the hall. The sound was absolutely incredible and provided such a unique experience for those pupils.
